Mistake?… or Destiny?

Recently, one of my mentors recommended a book for me to read.

My go-to right now is audio books, and this one didn’t show up on the list. I decided to order it online. I added it to my cart and within a few days it arrived on my doorstep.

It wasn’t until last night that I realized the book I had wasn’t the book I was supposed to get…

Shakti Rising by Kavitha M. Chinnaiyan, MD

…but it was the book I needed.

I began flipping through the pages and what I was reading was so synchronous to what I am going through now.

The book is about the mahavidyas. I had never heard of them before. They are the 10 Goddesses, all aspects of Shakti. If you are familiar with the yamas and niyamas, each Goddess is an archetype of each yama or niyama.

The one that resonated with me the most now is Bhuvaneshvari. Her chapter spoke about the space around things. Physical space, but also mental space. It’s about giving space to all of the labels or roles that define you. It’s about understanding that these roles do not define who you are.

I understood this concept before on an intellectual level. But as far as experientially witnessing myself detach from the labels I give myself has been so mind-blowing to try.

My takeaway for you from this experience is to say that sometimes mistakes are actually your destiny. I didn’t get what I intended to, but I got what I needed!

By the way, I did find the book I was trying to get. It’s called “Awakening Shakti” It is an audio book after all! 😂

  1. The part about giving up labels is something that our society needs today. That is something we should think about. I will definitely get that book.
